Congress considering higher mileage reimbursements for volunteers

 

A new bill floating through Congress would increase the amount U.S. volunteers are allowed to deduct on their tax forms for gas mileage. The bill aims to up the allowable deduction amount from the current rate of $0.14 for charitable purposes to $0.58, the standard rate used by businesses.

 If passed, this bill would apply to all volunteers itemizing their charitable mileage! It was recently introduced by Sen. Robert Casey (D-PA) and several Senators, including Sen. John Cornyn of TX, plan to endorse the bill.
